NHS England launches new patient safety warning system

On Friday NHS England launched its new national patient safety alerting system (NPSAS), a new three stage alert system designed to ensure that NHS staff are made aware of potential safety risks at the earliest available opportunity.

Whereas the previous system distributed warning alerts through a range of different mechanisms, the new system will disseminate alerts at three stages through a central alerting system.

NHS England will also publish monthly data on trusts who fail to confirm they have complied with any actions outlined in the alerts within a set timeframe.
