The Francis Inquiry: One year on
This report reviews and reflects on the impact that the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry has on acute hospital trusts, one year after the inquiry was published.
The report presents findings from a survey and interviews with senior NHS leaders, and finds a wide range of generally positive impacts. These particularly focus on the importance of being open with patients and relatives, the need for ensuring adequate staffing levels and the value of building a patient-centred culture within hospitals.
The report also highlights some of the challenges facing acute hospitals in driving forward these improvements, particularly regarding financial challenges and in some cases a lack of co-ordination between national healthcare agencies and regulators.
