This NICE quick reference guide for pressure ulcer management contains a summary of the full guidelines for the assessment, prevention and management of pressure ulcers in primary and secondary care.

It summarises the recommendations made in the full guidelines relating to three areas:

  • holistic assessment for the risk of delayed healing or complications of having a pressure ulcer
  • pressure ulcer prevention: pressure ulcer risk assessment and prevention, including the use of pressure-relieving devices (beds, mattresses and overlays) for the prevention of pressure ulcers in primary and secondary care.
  • the management of pressure ulcers in primary and secondary care.

An information leaflet for patients and the public on pressure ulcer prevention and management, slide sets for presenters and the full guidelines with references are available on the NICE website.
