This paper systematically reviews studies which have addressed the effectiveness of patient involvement in patient safety practice. 

It concludes that there is insufficient high quality evidence to inform how best to implement patient involvement in patient safety practice, highlighting issues around the patient-provider relationship and the effectiveness of patient involvement as further areas of research.
