This paper describes a randomized controlled trial of bed and bedside chair pressure sensors using radio-pagers (intervention group) compared to standard care (control group) in elderly patents admitted to acute, general medical wards in a large UK teaching hospital.

This single intervention did not reduce the incidence of inpatient falls or reduce the time to first fall and that the intervention was not cost effective. The authors suggest that this may be due to the complex organizational factors that are required for significant change.
