This training programme from the NPSA provides an introduction to the core concepts and ideas of patient safety. It is targeted at junior doctors, but remains relevant to other healthcare professionals.

The training is focused on four key areas that range from the causes of patient safety incidents to risk analysis and being open with patients after adverse events. The core topics covered are: 

  • Principles of human error
  • Principles of risk assessment 
  • Safer systems 
  • When things go wrong 

The training package includes practical material, case studies, resources for trainers and supporting videos.
