This group of established European and national diabetes organisations have joined forces to improve diabetes management in children and adolescents. Dose adjustment for normal eating’ (DAFNE) is a 5-day structured education programme for adults with type 1 diabetes that provides the knowledge and skills required for insulin adjustment on a meal-by-meal basis, within a safe environment.

The project by NHS Hammersmith and Fulham used co-production and developed from a diabetes service user group who wanted to provide more support and education for people with diabetes, and to raise awareness of diabetes in the local community. Volunteers were recruited to undertake champion, peer educator or peer mentor roles in Hammersmith and Fulham and Harrow.

The 'Safe at school' resources from the American Diabetes Association include webinars and educational materials for both parents and teachers. The materials cover the main principles of safe management of insulin in children and will useful in all countries.
